At the end of 2019, Michigan legalized online gaming, including poker. Now, more than a year later, the first hands of online poker have been dealt making Michigan the fifth state to offer legal online poker.
PokerStars, the world's largest online poker operator, became the first to launch real-money poker in Michigan. They did so alongside FOX Bet and Stars Casino, which are offering sports betting and casino games respectively. The real-money brands are partnered with the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians Gaming Authority.
'We welcome the addition of Odawa Casino, Poker Stars, Fox Bet, and Barstool Casino to Michigan's growing online gaming and sports wagering market,' said MGCB executive director Richard S. Kalm in a news release. 'Their participation will generate revenue to support education, tribal communities, and the city of Detroit.'
Although the launch was reported to be happening around 11 a.m. in Michigan, it seemed that it took a couple of hours for the first games to get rolling. Around 1:30 p.m., a screenshot circulated on social media appeared to show action underway at a $0.50/$1 no-limit hold'em table. Some players reported having deposit issues early on, but the action is indeed underway.
PokerStars will offer players the same options found in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, meaning a full slate of daily tournaments and the famed COOP (Championship of Online Poker) series – which will be called MICOOP (Michigan Championship of Online Poker). When that will take place is to be determined. At launch, Michigan will be a segregated market, meaning right now their player pool will not join those in other states. However, at the end of December, Governor Gretchen Whitmer did sign a law allowing for interstate play, though that doesn't go into effect until March 29.
The first ever PokerStars live Blackjack tournament will give players a chance to compete against each other rather than trying to beat the house, with the Paradise Island in the Bahamas providing a perfect setting for the highly anticipated event.

Otherwise, the new HighHand Blackjack at PokerStars follows the traditional rules and characteristics of the game: six decks, soft 17, double down, splitting.
PokerStars' official page states that the approximate house edge is 0,47999%. The Pot Wager Rules were also set by them. The amount of the wager is determined by PokerStars and all players will wager the same amount. There's a button that'll move from the first player on the dealer's left towards the other players. Each player is required to make the Pot Bet Wager and the collected sum will be placed at the center of the blackjack table. Finally, in order to split a pair the player has to place an additional equal pot wager.

The Blackjack Pot can only be won by the player who has the highest Blackjack value hand. However, if there's a tie or the dealer has the highest hand, the pot Blackjack pot will roll over to the next round. Besides the HighHand Blackjack at PokerStars, there are 8 other online blackjack titles to choose from. Classic Blackjack, Atlantic City Blackjack, European Blackjack, Double Deck Atlantic City Blackjack and Perfect Pairs are all available after downloading their free PokerStars casino software.
PokerStars also implemented two new blackjack side bet variations: Perfect Pairs and 21+3. 'Perfect Pairs enables players to wager on whether their two cards will be paired, and 21+3 bets are optional wagers based upon the player's own two cards, plus the dealer's up-cards,' explains the poker giant's official description. Another reason to celebrate is that PokerStars deployed their Multiplayer Blackjack on the Pokerstars mobile app. This title allows the player to play with their friends or strangers at the same mobile blackjack table.
